Only Someone Who Has Lost A Child Would Understand.

The Lamb!

I will never forget the day that I got a call from what I thought would be my daughter Ally on the other end of the phone but was a very distraught stranger. She had looked in the contacts on my daughter's phone and dialled the number that said MOM.

"Your daughter has been in a serious accident. I called the ambulance but we're at the corner of … come quickly."

My husband and I jumped in our vehicle and rushed to the scene of the accident. We arrived as the attendants were loading Ally into the ambulance. I took one look at the wreckage and screamed. I thought for sure she would not survive that crash.

Ally had been making a left-hand turn, when another young girl on her phone blasted through a now red light and broadsided her. Witnesses say the Jeep flew up into the air, did a complete 360, slammed down and miraculously skid between a telephone pole on one side and an electrical box on the other. Had she hit either one, authorities say she would not be here today. Her vehicle came to a stop by hitting a chain-link fence with a huge hedge behind. A much softer impact than what lay beyond.

As she groaned upon the stretcher bloodied and broken, all I could think about was death and what it would feel like to watch my child pass away.

Ally suffered some broken bones, a crushed hip, lacerations and cuts which looked much worse than they turned out to be, and she recovered fully. We are blessed to still have her.

But … somehow each year as good Friday approaches, I recall this incident when I think about what it must have felt like for God to watch His son suffer and die such a horrific death upon that cross. The word sacrifice comes alive, real, poignant.

The Lamb Jesus was slain for our benefit, so all our sins could be forgiven. Now let's not gloss over because we've heard this so many times. Let's stop. Listen. Breathe in the sacrifice.

This prophetic word written by Isaiah around 750 B.C., foretold how Jesus as the Lamb would come, die, and pay the penalty for our sins. He did just that, and willingly remained quiet as they lead Him to His death. But the Lamb did not end as one buried in the grave, he rose in victory. Rev. 5: 11-13 so powerfully depicts where our Lamb is today.

May the blessing of these words pour over you, saturate your soul this coming week as we head toward Palm Sunday. Let's collectively raise these words of praise and join the heavenly hosts giving our victorious Lamb, all the glory and honour He deserves. Let's think about His sacrifice in a new and fresh way.

As you—pray, ponder, praise, I ask you to share in the comments below how you prepare for Easter. Let's encourage each other in faith.
