You Are Invited!
Have you have been invited to a wedding this summer? How would you feel if you were invited as an honoured guest to a royal wedding, or to the wedding of a famous movie star? I bet you would be thrilled and talking about it non-stop.
Well I have an invitation, you have an invitation to the most spectacular wedding of all time where the King of Kings will be the Bridegroom and you will not be a mere guest, oh no, much better ... you will be the Bride.
Jesus calls Himself the Bridegroom (Matt. 9:14-15 and Matt. 25:1-13) He called the church (all believers) the bride. Why? Because He knew that no matter how good a marriage is here on earth, there is no bridegroom worthy of that title except Him. He is the one true infallible Bridegroom. And He has a party planned, a grand celebration, a marriage banquet. And you, as a believer, are invited.
Rev. 19:9 "Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!"
I can only imagine the grand celebration of singing and dancing, where we are dressed in fine white linen so clean and bright. (Read Rev. 19: 1-9) We will be pure; all shackles removed. We will never shed another tear, nor feel pain either physically or emotionally. No one will betray us, neither will we fail another. No longer tied to this world with a sinful nature, we will be free.
Join me as I speak aloud these wonderful words of declaration …
- I will be pure.
- I will be dressed in the brightest of white.
- I am invited.
- I am ready.
- I will be glad, rejoice, and give the Bridegroom glory.
- And I can't wait.
- Jesus your bride is ready.
This week I encourage you to try using the title of Bridegroom in prayer. This name is intimate and beautiful and has the power to bring you closer to Jesus.
Dear Bridegroom, lover of my soul, You know me inside and out. You love me with an everlasting love. You see my warts, my wounds, my worries, and yet you come as a Bridegroom would come to his beloved. You look deep into my eyes. You wrap me in your arms. You hold me close to your heart. I am yours and you are mine. Thank you for such love today and forevermore. Amen
Yes, like me you may have a wedding or two to attend, or maybe even your own, but nothing will compare to the one that awaits you in glory.
I can only imagine.
Listen again to this song that topped both the Christian and the secular charts. "I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me but with a slight twist to where your imagine goes. Imagine the marriage banquet of all banquets. Close your eyes and think of that wedding celebration when you meet the Bridegroom of your soul. You will share in this spectacular climax to human history and what a honour it will be. Picture yourself there. Let the cares of this world wash away and give thanks. Maybe even get up, let your worries fade. Practise your wedding dance today.
